Parental leave
The Parental Leave Act 1998 was introduced to entitle parents of children of the qualifying age (currently eight years), to a period of unpaid parental leave to take care of his/her child.
Generally, an employee must have one year's continuous service prior to requesting parental leave. The Act permits employers to postpone leave in certain circumstances.
Recent Developments
Changes to parental leave will come into effect in 2019 and 2020 under the Parental Leave (Amendment) Act 2019. The duration of parental leave and qualifying requirements for employees will be updated.
