Carer's leave
Overview
Carer's leave, of up to 104 weeks, is an entitlement available to eligible employees with 12 months’ continuous service with an employer and is to be used when the individual requires time off to care for a 'relevant' person. Documentation is required to show the employer that the person to receive the care is a 'relevant' person.
Employers have the legal right to refuse applications for carer's leave from employees who do not meet certain criteria, but discretion is allowed in a few limited circumstances.
