The purpose of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990 was to reform the framework used to promote harmonious industrial relations between employers and workers in Ireland.
KEY POINTS
- It aims to provide a structure for industrial action by setting out rules for picketing, ballots and injunctions which can prevent industrial action from taking place.
- A Code of Practice on Victimisation exists which aims to prevent the victimisation of employees due to their membership or non-membership of a trade union and other related activity. It also covers the procedure for investigations into trade disputes by the Labour Court
