Right to disconnect


The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has prepared a Code of Practice for Employers and Employees on the Right to Disconnect. The purpose of the Code is to provide guidance on best practice around a Right to Disconnect.

The Code came into effect on 1 April 2021 and applies to all types of employment, whether an employee is working remotely, in a fixed location, at home. Failure to follow the guidelines in a WRC Code of Practice is not an offence but they are referred to in evidence if the WRC, Labour Court or other court deems the Code relevant to the determination of a claim.
